Keeping our communities safe is one of our top priorities. That’s why Aylesbury Conservatives, together with our colleagues across Buckinghamshire, are standing firmly against plans by the Lib Dem-led Fire Authority (supported by Labour and Independents) to cut almost a third of the fire engines across the area and close two stations.
Under these proposals, a fire engine in Aylesbury would be lost. This would put extra pressure on crews at a time when the Labour Government is imposing massive housing growth on our local area. We believe these cuts are unnecessary and potentially dangerous.
And let’s be clear — this decision isn’t motivated by money. In the last three years under Conservative leadership, firefighter numbers increased to their highest level since 2013, and finances improved so strongly that His Majesty’s Inspector praised the turnaround. Earlier concerns about fire prevention, fire protection, and equality & diversity were also removed.
When the Fire Authority was Conservative-led, we consistently rejected proposals to reduce frontline services. That remains our position today.
We are working alongside our Conservative colleagues across Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes to fight for the protection of fire services, ensuring that residents in Aylesbury and across the county remain safe.
Together, we can send a clear message: Aylesbury deserves strong fire cover and safe communities – not cuts.
