Work has now been completed on phase one of the Pavilion Quarter regeneration scheme, a flagship project being delivered by Buckinghamshire Council in the heart of Aylesbury Town Centre.
The first phase saw the complete demolition of the old ‘Gala Bingo’ building, transforming the space into a new public walkway and extended car park, now open to residents and visitors. The change opens up this part of town, creating a new pedestrian route between the High Street and the thriving Exchange development.
This project forms part of Buckinghamshire Council’s £5 million investment in Aylesbury Town Centre — one element of a wider regeneration strategy designed to attract new businesses, create jobs, and make the town an even better place to live, shop, and visit.
Buckinghamshire Council’s approach places town centres at the heart of its Economic Growth Plan, recognising their vital role in supporting local economies and reversing urban decline.
🌆 Aylesbury’s Regeneration in Action
As part of this wider transformation, a range of improvements are also underway across the town centre:
- Market Square: New lighting to highlight historic features, upgraded power supply for stalls and events, and deep cleaning of statues and monuments.
- Cambridge Street: Improved paving, lighting, and a new pedestrian zone designed to enhance the visitor experience.
- Kingsbury Square: Permanent traffic restrictions to make the area safer and more welcoming for pedestrians.
- Heritage Buildings: The historic Old County Offices are being sympathetically converted into 46 new homes, while the Judges Lodgings building has been transformed into an elegant new wedding venue, The Private Lounge.
Cllr Julie Ward, Deputy Cabinet Member for Resources and Town Centre Regeneration, said:
“These are really exciting times for Aylesbury. The completion of the first phase of the Pavilion Quarter marks an important milestone and opens up new space in the town centre. It’s a clear example of how Buckinghamshire Council is delivering on its regeneration strategy — boosting business, attracting investment, and breathing new life into underused areas.”
Cllr Robert Carington, Cabinet Member for Resources, added:
“The Pavilion Quarter is a key part of our long-term vision for Aylesbury. By investing in our town centres, we’re creating more opportunities for residents and businesses alike and ensuring that Aylesbury continues to thrive as the county town of Buckinghamshire.”
The Pavilion Quarter represents a major step forward in the council’s vision for Aylesbury — building a town centre that is vibrant, accessible, and fit for the future.
