Keir Starmer has been forced into an embarrassing U-turn—admitting he was wrong to cut Winter Fuel Payments. As a result, millions more pensioners will now receive this vital support this winter.
This didn’t happen by accident. It happened because hundreds of thousands of people—including over 500 right here in Aylesbury—stood up and made their voices heard. Residents signed petitions, contacted MPs, shared their views, and refused to stay silent.
Let’s be clear: under Labour’s original plans, millions of pensioners could have gone without heating this winter. At a time when many older residents are already struggling with rising bills, that would have been unacceptable.
But thanks to public pressure and strong Conservative opposition, the government backed down. This matters—not just for our pensioners, but for every resident who expects stability, fairness, and compassion from those in power. Labour may have a large majority in Parliament—and a new MP here in Aylesbury—but this shows they can still be held to account.
Where was Aylesbury’s new Labour MP, when pensioners needed defending? Did she fight for residents or vote alongside the government?
While Labour MPs have been focused on internal politics and making excuses, Conservatives have been standing alongside local people to protect what matters most. We’re proud of what’s been achieved—together. But we won’t stop here. Aylesbury Conservatives will keep fighting for our communities, holding Labour to account, and standing up for those who deserve better.
