Families in Aylesbury are being invited to take part in a free summer activity designed to bring more people into the town centre while supporting local independent businesses.
Canine Capers launches on Saturday 1 August, transforming Aylesbury town centre into a fun, dog-themed trail suitable for all ages.
Throughout August, visitors can explore participating shop windows to discover different dog breeds hidden around the town. Those who complete the trail will receive a free goody bag, while special selfie stations around the town centre will give families the chance to snap a photo and enter a competition to win a prize.
The event forms part of a wider programme of free family activities taking place across Buckinghamshire throughout July, August and September. The initiative aims to encourage residents to visit their local high streets, discover independent businesses and enjoy a range of community events over the summer holidays.
As well as Aylesbury, events will take place across the county, including:
- Princes Risborough – Lights, Camera, Action! (25 July – 15 August), a film-themed trail ending with a community cinema screening.
- Gerrards Cross – Dig It! (1 August), launching a flower trail with gardening activities for children and families.
- Happy Haddenham – (1 August), featuring family entertainment before a month-long inspirational quote trail.
- Winslow – Paws in the Park (2 August), with dog agility displays, live music, stalls and family activities.
- High Wycombe – Bears on Chairs (6–16 August), celebrating the town's furniture-making heritage with a teddy bear trail and family fun day.
- Chesham – Explorer's Day (22 August), offering free craft activities, face painting and sports.
- Buckingham – Discover Buckingham (5 September), showcasing independent businesses with workshops, live music and family entertainment.
- Additional events and trails will also take place in Wendover and Chalfont St Peter.
Buckinghamshire Council says the programme has been designed to encourage more people to explore their local high streets while supporting the businesses that are at the heart of their communities.
Cllr Julie Ward, Buckinghamshire Council's Deputy Cabinet Member for Town Centre Regeneration, said:
"Our high streets play a vital role in bringing communities together, and this fantastic summer programme offers families a chance to enjoy free activities across the county while discovering the wonderful independent businesses that make Buckinghamshire's towns and villages so special. With something for both young and old to enjoy, I'd encourage everyone to take part, get involved and support their local high street this summer."
The programme is funded by Buckinghamshire Council through the UK Government's Shared Prosperity Fund, alongside support from local high street partners.
