At the Annual General Meeting of Conservative controlled Buckinghamshire Council the leader, Cllr Steven Broadbent set out the priorities for the year ahead, reaffirming the Council’s commitment to stable leadership, strong financial management, delivering for residents across our county.
Despite an extremely challenging national picture, rapidly rising demand for public services, and ongoing intense pressures, including a reduction of £44.5m from the Government, on finances, the Council has focused on maintaining value for money while continuing to invest in the services residents rely on.
Councillor Steven Broadbent, said:
"Residents rightly expect a council that is on their side, our focus remains on delivering practical results, supporting local people and ensuring every pound spent achieves the greatest possible value."
Over the past year the Council has continued to deliver significant improvements despite financial pressures. Adult Social Care services received a 'Good' rating from the Care Quality Commission. Buckinghamshire launched its Economic Growth Plan to attract jobs and investment, and an additional £3 million was invested to improve support for children and young people with Education, Health and Care Plans. A record £120m will also be invested in roads across Buckinghamshire to resurface carriageways, fix potholes and improve drainage.
The Council has also continued investing in infrastructure and regeneration projects, including the opening of the first phase of the South East Aylesbury Link Road and improvements to support our vibrant town centres across Buckinghamshire.
Councillor Broadbent added:
"Strong financial management, especially while Councils across the country continue to face significant pressures has to be an overriding priority however, our focus remains clear: protecting services, investing in Buckinghamshire's future and creating a place where every resident can thrive. This coming year we will continue to focus on supporting our communities, driving economic growth and delivering efficient services that our residents can rely on."
