Buckinghamshire residents who face barriers to employment are set to benefit from a new support programme designed to help people find and keep meaningful work.
Buckinghamshire Council has launched the Connect to Work scheme, delivered locally by Intuitive Thinking. The nationally funded initiative will support residents living with long-term health conditions, disabilities, or complex challenges that make entering employment more difficult.
The scheme is also open to carers, veterans and ex-offenders who may need additional support to access the workplace.
Participants will work one-to-one with a dedicated employment specialist who will help identify their strengths, experience and career ambitions. Support will then be tailored to each individual, helping them search for suitable roles and build the confidence and skills needed to succeed.
Importantly, the programme is not limited to those currently out of work. Residents who are already employed but struggling because of a health condition or disability can also receive help to stay in work or return after a period of illness. Support continues after someone secures a job, with ongoing coaching, training and advice to help people progress in their careers.
Steven Broadbent said:
“Connect to Work is all about giving people the support they need to thrive and realise their full potential.
“We want to help residents break down the barriers that make finding or staying in work difficult by offering personalised, practical guidance. Good, meaningful employment doesn’t just provide financial stability, it strengthens people’s health, confidence and wellbeing.
“That’s why I’m so pleased to see this programme launched and ready to make a real difference in our communities.”
Residents interested in taking part can register their interest via the council’s employment support webpage.
Alongside Connect to Work, Buckinghamshire Council has also launched BEST – the Bucks Employment and Support Tool, funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The online tool helps residents quickly find local support services that can assist with job searches, training and career development.
The council worked with students from Buckinghamshire College Group to design and build the tool, ensuring it is simple, practical and easy for residents to use.
Together, these initiatives aim to strengthen local employment support and ensure more Buckinghamshire residents can access good-quality work and long-term career opportunities.
