Following today’s Full Council meeting, Cllr Steven Broadbent has been elected as the new Leader of Buckinghamshire Council and announced his Cabinet members who will continue to lead the Council under a minority Conservative administration.
Steven, who has proudly represented his home community of Ridgeway East for the past ten years, steps into the role after serving as Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Transport. He takes over from Cllr Martin Tett, whose years of dedicated leadership helped guide the Council through its successful formation and growth since 2020.
Steven said:
“I am honoured and delighted to have been elected Leader of Buckinghamshire Council. I pay tribute to Martin for his sterling service to the people of Buckinghamshire.
“Since its creation, Buckinghamshire Council has been a model of a well-run, efficient authority—delivering for residents across our towns and villages. That’s why local voters have put their faith in the Conservatives once again, bucking the national trend and returning excellent Conservative councillors right across the county.”
Despite the challenging national picture, the Conservative Group remains by far the largest party on the Council—winning almost double the seats of the next largest group, and just 0.5% away from a full majority.
“This result gives us a strong mandate to lead the council, but to run effectively I will collaborate with other group leaders to ensure the business of the council is delivered. Steven added. “We will build on the good work of the Conservatives over recent years—focussed on what matters to residents: improving roads, protecting our environment, making council services work for you and delivering value for money.”
