Buckinghamshire’s Youth Justice Service has been rated ‘Good’ following a recent inspection, with inspectors praising the quality of support provided to children, victims and families across the county. The council-led service brings together specialist teams from children’s services, education, health and policing to support young people, help them move away from offending and address the harm caused to victims.
Inspectors found that children are genuinely at the heart of the service, highlighting the strong relationships built between young people and staff. Children, parents and carers described practitioners as supportive, respectful, flexible and committed to meeting their individual needs. The inspection also praised the strength of partnership working across Buckinghamshire, with education, health, social care and policing working together to ensure children and families receive coordinated support when they need it.
Cllr Carl Jackson, Buckinghamshire Council’s Conservative Cabinet Member for Education and Children’s Services, welcomed the findings.
“This is a very positive inspection outcome and I am delighted that the hard work, passion and professionalism of our Youth Justice Service staff have been recognised so clearly.
“It is particularly encouraging to see inspectors praise the supportive and respectful relationships our staff build with children, young people and their families every day.
“This achievement reflects the strength of our partnerships across education, health, social care and policing, with different teams working together to help children fulfil their potential. I would like to thank all those involved for their dedication and commitment.”
The service will now build on the positive inspection, with further work underway to strengthen support for victims, improve consistency and make greater use of performance data. The ‘Good’ rating provides a strong foundation as Buckinghamshire’s Youth Justice Service continues working to help young people build brighter futures while supporting victims and communities across the county.
