With a pledge to fight to ‘defend Buckinghamshire and continue to make it a great place to live, work and bring up a family’, Buckinghamshire Conservatives on Friday launched their Manifesto and campaign for the local council elections on 1st May. Conservative candidates packed in to hear former Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Robert Jenrick, along with Shadow Minister for Local Government, David Simmonds, give a rousing start to the campaign. Robert warned of the threat to local democracy from Labour’s Planning reforms and imposition of ‘mega councils’ across much of south east England. David spoke of the dangers of Lib Dem and Labour/Independent councils and their record of running councils into bankruptcy and slashing services.

Martin Tett, Leader of Buckinghamshire Conservatives spoke proudly of the record of delivering the pledges in their last election Manifesto and now promising to go even further to defend our beautiful county and support our residents.

“ There are 19 Labour councils now in financial ‘special measures’ and a further 6 Lib Dem Councils, such as nearby Windsor and Maidenhead which wanted to put up council tax by 25%. By contrast Buckinghamshire Council is financially sound and delivering good services despite this Labour Government taking over £6m from us next year”.

“Our candidates are local people who care passionately about the areas we live in. We will support opportunity and aspiration for all, while protecting our most vulnerable, defending our beautiful environment and our residents against the attacks from this Labour Government.”

Labour will support building over the Green Belt,  cutting the Winter Fuel Allowance to the most vulnerable, raising taxes and attacking our farmers.  The Lib Dems are in disarray with 5 of their Councillors resigning over “values and behaviours no longer compatible with the standards required to hold public office” and the Independents a chaotic alliance of disparate ideologies unable to decide on what they agree on. Most often they simply vote with Labour. None of them have a plan to deal with the major challenges facing our county”.

Only our experienced and energetic team of candidates are ready to serve the people of Buckinghamshire, delivering on local issues and providing the quality representation they deserve!
