Two of Aylesbury's most popular parks have once again been recognised among the very best in the country after retaining their prestigious Green Flag Awards.
Vale Park and Bedgrove Park are among eight Buckinghamshire parks and green spaces to achieve Green Flag status this year, an international quality mark recognising parks that are welcoming, safe, well-maintained and managed to the highest standards. The awards highlight the ongoing work of Buckinghamshire Council's parks teams, volunteers and community partners who help keep these much-loved spaces looking their best for residents and visitors throughout the year.
Continued investment in Aylesbury's green spaces
Over the past year, Buckinghamshire Council has continued to invest in parks across the county, including improvements at Whitehill Park in Aylesbury. The council has also been working with local communities through the Healthy School Neighbourhoods pilot in Elmhurst Ward. As part of the programme, Alfred Rose Memorial Park has welcomed a brand-new King Alfred Castle-themed play area, designed with input from pupils at Elmhurst School, who helped shape and vote on the final design.
The project has also supported biodiversity improvements, with local pupils and volunteers working alongside environmental charity Earthwatch to plant wildflowers and enhance habitats for wildlife. Following the success of the pilot, Buckinghamshire Council plans to expand the Healthy School Neighbourhoods programme to around 15 schools across the county over the next three to five years.
Recognition for parks teams and volunteers
Buckinghamshire Council's Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, Cllr Peter Brazier, welcomed the awards, praising the dedication of council staff, rangers, volunteers and community partners who help maintain Buckinghamshire's parks to such a high standard. He said the Green Flag Awards recognise the important role parks play in supporting healthier, greener and more connected communities, while encouraging people to enjoy the outdoors, stay active and spend time together.
